This year marks the 30th anniversary of cross-strait exchanges. This morning, the "Ink and Wash Painting, Cross-Strait Affection" Suzhou-Taiwan calligraphy and painting cultural exchange event and the unveiling ceremony of Jiangsu Province's cross-strait exchange base were held at the Wuxi Wudi Helu Ancient City Ruins Museum. This event, hosted by the Wuxi Municipal People's Government Taiwan Affairs Office and the Binhu District People's Government, and undertaken by the Wuxi Wudi Helu Ancient City Ruins Management Office, attracted more than 100 participants, including calligraphy and painting artists from the Taiwan China Congee Association, artists from the Wuxi Calligraphers and Painters Association, artists from the Wuxi Liangxi Congee Association, and Taiwanese students in Wuxi.
More than 50 works of calligraphy and painting in various styles by over 30 renowned calligraphers and painters from Suzhou and Taiwan were exhibited in the museum's exhibition hall. Each work, whether majestic and unrestrained, or gentle and delicate, or elegant and free, expresses the cultural concept that Suzhou and Taiwan calligraphy and painting share the same roots and are closely related.
Wuxi is a beautiful city with a history spanning over a thousand years. Located in a scenic area, it is a famous city in the south of the Yangtze River with a history of three thousand years. As early as the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, it was already an economic and cultural center, nurturing many literati and scholars, and still preserving numerous historical relics. Many famous people have come from Wuxi throughout history, including the geographer, traveler, and writer Xu Xiake; the outstanding painter and art educator Xu Beihong; and Rong Desheng, a pioneer of China's national industry. In recent years, exchanges and interactions between Wuxi and Taiwan have become increasingly frequent, with various exchange activities carried out in various fields including economics, culture, science and technology, education, religion, and sports. Events such as the "China Homestay Sustainable Development Conference and Cross-Strait Homestay Industry Exchange Meeting," the "Taiwanese Students Visit Wuxi Series of Activities," and the "Taihu Wind, Cross-Strait Affection" youth baseball exchange tournament, all stand as testaments to cross-strait exchanges and interactions.
